Jon Snow is dead. Stannis Baratheon is dead. Jaime’s incest love child Myrcella is dead. And so is my love for this show.
Season 5 put on its wife beater and slapped the hell out of the women characters. Arya is blind. Meryn Trant got his jollies off whipping some 7th grade girls. Sansa was raped in front of an audience. Stannis torched his kid. And, Cersei invoked some sympathy with her march of shame.
The following is a list of grievances I demand the show confess, much like how the High Sparrow made Cersei decree:
- You have lost political intrigue. Confess.
- Characters have suddenly vanished. Where’s Little Finger? Where’s Brand? Confess.
- There is little tension. All these episodes have had us waiting for something to happen. Confess.
- Poor story choices. Why kill Jon Snow? Why didn’t the Wildlings (whom he saved) stand up for him? His story isn’t over yet. Melisandre should have had her comeuppance. Confess.
- The smaller aspects of the show are gone. No one is sending ravens with messages. Confess.
- The “better not do that factor.” Since the white walkers can resurrect people, and the King’s Landing doctor turned “The Mountain” into a Frankenstein, no dead people should come back to life. Confess.
Game of Thrones has a long road of redemption ahead in Season 6. “Shame.”
