Removed the distraction of gaming. This was a wise move. It’s been a whole week since I adopted this practice. The writing clip has increased significantly. In the previous two years of working on my book, I’ve oscillated from periods of intense dedication to borderline negligence. While I have been productive, my goal this year is to get consistent and adopt a daily regimen that lasts. I have written everyday for the past two years and I am proud of that achievement, but some days have been limited to simply writing for one minute and not being fully engaged. Writing with intention, consistency, and commitment. I am working on removing watching online videos and browsing endlessly to dedicate more time to the craft. In the evening, I do watch the news (PBS NewsHour, baby!) and some shows and movies. It’s important to decompress. I still log my time on a spreadsheet and seeing the graph’s line rise up and level off is a gratifying visual. No longer is the line tickling the x-axis in a state of purgatory.
The motivation behind this dedication to intention and commitment is that I just want to finish this book already. Through multiple rewrites, I’m ready to finally finish it, and move onto other projects.
