A good question to ask during rewriting: Do I actually need this? What I am found is if a certain passage is a pain to write, I’ll go ahead and remove it entirely. Then it works! As writers, we have to trust our instincts. We’ve read so many books, watched so many movies, and have been inundated with story for our entire lives. Let’s trust ourselves to know when something simply doesn’t belong, and breaks the harmony of the chapter.
