Writer’s Log 52

The experiment with deadlines and page counts did not yield productive results. I’ve returned to my old approach of writing for a set length of time. It worked with success before, now I will return to the practice. It makes sense for me. As much as I would want to get this book done in a timely manner, I don’t want to rush it too much. I’m ensuring the book is in the best possible condition to be read by others. If it takes an extra few months, then it’s worth it. And, I don’t think perfect is getting in the way of the good. That’s not what’s happening. I’m merely using the productivity approach that best yields the type of creative results I desire. I remind myself: I’m writing this for myself. It’s okay to take that extra time. I can focus on quality and really fine-tune the prose. The lesson I learned from the previous draft was this: I knew where I rushed the writing and the reading suffered. I am writing a pretty slow clip. And that’s fine. I am doing what works for me. The quality is coming through. Things are making sense. I am ever-increasingly becoming more satisfied with the shape of the narrative. As eager as I am to read it when it’s finished, I am simply happy to just be working on it everyday again. How do you eat a whale? One bite at a time.
